What You Need to Know About Noise Complaints
The Torrington Area Health District does not have a local Noise ordinance. Nuisance noise pollution is regulated through the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection DEEP or through your local municipal noise control ordinance.
Please understand that nuisance types of noise, such as licensed motor vehicles (including motorcycles), chainsaws, lawn mowers, and all-terrain vehicles, are not explicitly regulated. These are considered temporary noises that eventually resolve themselves. Furthermore, neither the TAHD nor the State of Connecticut regulates noise generated by the otherwise lawful discharge of firearms.
